Oh, and to that comment I have to say: "HAHAHA". Blizzard copy guild wars? Have you not heard that in GW2 we will get to jump and swim? I think it's the other way around.

6 months ago, I though, fair enough, they're still very busy with GW2 so probably won't have anything to show anyway. Now I'm getting slightly worried that GW2 is stalling. I have a slight suspicion that there are technical problems with what they've done so far and it's taking them a while to fix. After all, some of the changes in GW2 require loads of changes under the hood.

Look at the original Guild Wars. It was announced in April 2003 and came out in May 2005. There was playable content by the end of 2004 (the betas IIRC) GW2 was announced in early 2007 so theoretically the game should be at least past 2/3rds development. Unless GW1 was announced when they had something to show.

All hail Blizzard, creator of basic human functions like 'jumping' and 'swimming'.

Copying? Yeah, seriously, that's just dumb. EVERYBODY copies off everything. You think WoW invented Eleves and Dwarves or just stole it from the Warhammer board game, which stole it from Dungeons and Dragons, which stole it from JRR Tolken, who as an actually scholar of ancient cultures, was inspired by stuff from 7th century Celtic folk lore.

Seriously, people who think WoW invented this shit are the same morons who think that Halo invented the First Person Shooter and the concept of space + aliens + guns.

Ya, that's it. They're worried that Blizzard is going to copy their super secret ground breaking ideas. That's why they haven't thrown out a bone.

The real reason is development is taking way longer than anticipated. You can't release stuff, creating the illusion that development is nearing completion, and then expect customers to hang around waiting and waiting. They'll start to give stuff out when they think they are within about a year of release, with a beta 6 months thereafter. No sooner. So when we dont get anything until spring/summer you can then bet on a late summer 2010 release.

You can't simply take the situation/game 4 years ago and move it forward 4 years in time. GW2 is a much bigger fish from what we've been told (linked instances, use of the vertical axis, emergent complexity, etc.) and I'm pretty sure that they're also building it to be resilient to the kind of problems they encountered in GW1, which is by itself a huge job. It's the same mistake as comparing it to WoW or D2, they may have a lot of commonalities in terms of content, requirements, etc. but they can't be judged against the same rules (unless you want everything to be simple and have only one set of rules for everything ...).

Given that it's going to be one of the few brilliant no-monthly-fee MMO, they may also have chosen to be quiet so as to focus resources (a.k.a. money) on development, rather than marketing. Once information will be out, and if people like it, people will naturally come to GW2 (unless they're too busy with D2, SC2, WAR, AION, etc.), because they only have to pay once and they own the game forever. It's like buying a 6-months trial of WoW, but you can leave it aside without any kind of remorse.

Given the financial success of GW1, I think they're doing it right again, although I can't say for sure if people angried by GW1 mistakes, blunders and other affairs won't simply forget it, or that people won't hear about it because they're too busy elsewhere. It was (ironically) funny to see the ad for warguru.com at the top of GW Guru's forums, because beyond the game, there's also a community and thats where they may be loosing (more or less depending on how you look at it) ground...

I highly doubt GW2 would be canceled... Honestly don't know how it went for other games, but anet already released too much information (wich is pretty much non-existing, yes i'm aware), made too many promises, it already made too clear that there WILL be a sequel to GW. And making excuses to leave GW1 as it is because they're working on GW2 knowing it's been canceled, is a pretty bad move on their behalf. So all those people starting to point out it's been canceled or whatever, that's how rumors get started.

Personally i think they simply don't have anything worth showing, even tough i heard somewhere we'd have something by the end of this year. But whatever it might be, if they're not releasing it it's because they have a reason, games take some time in development. Take Half-Life 2. It was in development for SIX YEARS after HL1 was released and for the large majority nothing of the sequel was heard. And yet after those 6 years, it emerged and was brilliant.

So i'm hoping that in a year from now, hell maybe even a few months less we'll have the game, if not the open beta. Even tough i might beeing a little too hopeful

It's most likely going to take 3-4 more years. Otherwise they'd be releasing info, because you don't want to be going up against Diablo 3 under the radar.

Can't you people be patient? Once upon a time fans would wait months just to see a tiny, grainy photo in a magazine article about an upcoming game. GW2 will come out when it comes out, just shut the hell up and we'll get news when they're ready to tell us something.

At this point given how much work seems to be done on GW2's biggest likely competitor D3, I can't really begin to think they have anything worthwhile done at all and if they do release something it'll either be in 2009 like they hinted and be rushed and full of recycled material or it will be so far in the future that when it does come out it will make the day of the 5 people still playing GW1....

But seriously Anet, not even a screen shot with at least semi-complete elements?

Patience died when WoW-Clones started crowding the MMO market. It's now incredibly cutthroat, and time is of the essence (unless you hold a popular IP which will succeed no matter what, i.e. WAR and SW:TOR)

GW2's only thing that differentiates it from the market is lack of monthly fee. If NCSoft is cutting corners, that reason alone is enough to cancel GW2.

Back again Zinger? Hate to break it to you but even after all this time there still isn't anyone who cares.

If I was CR for ANet, I'd be making sure everyone was more than satisfied that GW2 was being made, by demanding that screenshots/concept art/anything was given to me to upload for the people who want to see it.

But then, I'm not CR. So either Regina is bad at her job, or GW2 is going downhill fast.

Anet has completely forgotten about the community, ignoring your customers is not a good way to keep interest, even if the product is having a few hiccups and its still in a design phase.

I have no info but perhaps insite.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ctX_10_support

Ok, scroll to the bottom of the page under "upcoming games" and there it is.

Now lets look at what we know about gw2.

- We know that that there are 3 worlds that are mostly not instanced. We know that the world is to be semi living, make a meteor crater and its there till that world gets favor and the gods repair it or shoot an arrow into a tree and it will be there until the world is repaired.

- pvp will be week long events that you can come and go as you please (sounds like a massive battle to me)

- Breath taking graphics. (like the original compared to what was available at the time of its release)

- story line bubbles

- indepth crafting system

- beta was canceled for THIS year.

- multiple playable races

I am sure others can add to list but this will suffice.

I believe, in MY OPINION, that A-net has/and is creating a state of the art game. That the current "average" gaming computer, can not currently handle.
The reason to wait becomes obvious, when you look at the upcoming release of computer hardware. The i7 series chips are due in November this year and the Mid ranged i7 chips are due to hit the market 1st/2nd quarter of next year. Also the new AMD chip is due soon as well. These are awesome chips and the computers will be insane and affordable. I do not think you will be required to own a new i7 computer but the release of them raises the overall bar on "average gaming computers". Multiple cpu cores, 4+GB of ram and a 8800 gt to hit "average bar" at that time. I also believe that Windows 7 (the final stage of the longhorn project, Vista was the 1st stage, will launch soon as well. This puts good old XP at end of life and support.)

so the equation is simple.

Best game to date + the release of best hardware to date = wait for average user to have a system to run the game.

If Anet came out and told you that you P.O.S. computer will not run GW2 the flame thread would never end.

DISCLAIMER: This is solely my opinion. I do not have inside info over what anyone else knows. I am only stating obvious facts. Decide for yourselves.

I'm totally with you on that. Not to mention nVidia's IC GPUs coming next year and multi-threaded DirextX 11. But tbh, this will benefit everyone, including Blizzard Activision's D2 and SC2.

When you imagine the feat they did for GW1 low HW hardware requirements into such a video HW world, I can't wait to see what it's going to be. I imagine something like Aion (if you look at the game mechanics, it actually looks very similar to GW!).

On the other hand, I can't believe that they tie the release of their game to new HW or OS coming at a later point. Who know when Windows7 will effectively be released? GW2 will come when it's ready, it's as simple as that. Meanwhile, play GW1 because it doesn't cost you money .
